It's Oh So Quiet

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is Ram. He works at a petrol station where I often stop by on the way home. I don't know how long he has been working there. I don't know if he has any family here or if he is married with 3 kids. But I do know a little something about him - he has a truly wonderful smile. And he is not afraid to show it. Every time I walk in, he's ready with a big beaming smile. For all I know, he just knows me as the guy who comes in for a bottle of low fat milk and a hot dog with mayo and ketchup. But everytime I see Ram with his ready smile, I can't help but smile back at him, and for a brief moment, we're just two strangers smiling at each other.

Random? Not really. I think this world needs a few more people like Ram.

I tend to freak people out by smiling at them. I think I freaked the HSBC security guards through the CCTV. You wouldn't always have a freakishly-large smile and a wave at a CCTV camera.

Do you think that they smile because they're paid to offer 'service with a smile'? Those Emarat kids are always beaming, catching you off-guard with their loud "HELLO MAAAAMM" the second you walk through the door.

I agree with The Lady. Near my university, Nick and I used to go to this gas station and this lady behind the counter...I didn't even put my foot through the door and she would holler- GOOD MORNING, MAAM!. She would literally holler (the distance between the counter and the entrance is not short)...sigh.

Samawel: That's such an awesome idea- smile at the CCTV and scare the gaurds. You know what? I'm so going to do that now...esp. in the parking lots. I'm going to grab hold of a black bag, pretend there's something nasty in it and *smaaaaile at the camera- an evil smile that is. ;-D and then run out of sight and then back into the camera frame. Let them keep figuring out what I have done! Bwhwahhawhahwhawhaw!
